I am your proud Washington Teachers' Union President Nominee! I recently served as the Building Representative of Ballou High School. Furthermore, the WTU selected me as the Exemplary Building Representative out of 5000 members. This prestigious award empowered me to advance my leadership abilities to become your next President. As evident in the slideshow above, I have been extremely active in the community as well as advocating for educators and students. I was pleased to organize "East of the River Schools Matter" in 2017. This campaign enabled students, parents, and educators to engage with city council regarding extreme budget cuts primarily in Wards 7 and 8.
Many of you may recognize me as the "Faking the Grade" Whistleblower (see video on the right). As a mandated reporter, it was necessary to report educational neglect that adversely affects the future of our students. I reported grade fixing scandals with representatives from: Labor Management, former Chancellor, State Board of Education, City Council, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Education, and the Office of the Inspector General. As a result, changes in leadership were made and new policies have been set forth.
If selected as your new leader, I will continue to be a "Warrior Who Overturns Corruption" and be an integral part in restoring our educational system.
In Solidarity,
Ms. Monica L. Brokenborough
